Dear friends and members,

On Friday, March 23, at 9 am, The Patagonia Museum will conduct a highway cleanup. Meet at Beaty Lane and Highway 82 ( Milepost 19) at the southwest end of the town park near the ramadas, a few minutes before 9 am.

On Saturday, March 24, from 9 am to 1 pm, The Patagonia Museum will host a workday at the Lochiel Schoolhouse. Please bring water, gloves and a lunch. Various tasks for various abilities. Please let me know if you are interested.

On Wednesday, April 18, at 7 pm in the Patagonia Library, Arizona Humanities Scholar Paul Hirt, from Arizona State University , will discuss Water in Arizona: Past, Present, Future.

On Friday, April 20, at 6:30 pm, the Friends of the Patagonia Library are sponsoring a fundraiser with Stephen Buchman, author of “The Reason for Flowers”. Visit your local library for more details.

On Saturday, April 21, from 9 am to 6 pm, The Patagonia Museum and Borderlands Restoration Network are partnering to host Earthfest 2018. Several activities are planned to highlight this day. Food, music and booths will be centered around the gazebo in the Patagonia Town Park. The Tin Shed Theater will host a movie presentation, offering coffee and pastries to start the day. The Patagonia Museum will be open from 9 am to 4 pm and will host the six guest speakers’ presentations. Jonathon Lutz of Tucson Audubon’s Paton Center, Jim Koweek of Arizona Revegetation, Joaquin Murrieta from Watershed Management Group, Summer Lewton from Dirty Girl Farmette, Caleb Weaver of Borderlands Earth Care Youth Institute and Francesca Claverie from Borderlands Restoration Network are scheduled to present topics relating to sustainability and water. On the museum campus Borderlands Restoration will feature a native plant sale and an open house of the seed lab. There will also be other activities celebrating Earthfest at the Patton Center , Deep Dirt Institute and the Nature Conservancy Preserve. A guided hike will originate from the gazebo as well as The Patagonia Museum’s walking tour. More details on Facebook: @EarthfestPatagoniaAZ .
On Saturday, May 12, at 10:30 am in the Patagonia Public Library. The Patagonia Museum will meet with guest speaker, Andrew Dowdle, from Pima County Superior Court, who will discuss the Greaterville Horror Trial of 1915.

Attached is a photo taken from where the helicopter pad is now in Patagonia looking south toward where the Stage Stop Inn is now. Circa 1920, perhaps. The Patagonia Commercial Company was owned by Rollin Rice Richardson who died in 1923. In front of the store was his ore sample exhibit. Next to the PCC is the First State Bank building.
